Engraving

An intaglio printmaking technique that creates a crisp, precise line. Lines are scratched into a metal plate a tool with V-shaped blade (called a ‘burin’). The lines are filled with ink. Damp paper is laid on top of the plate and run through a press that squashes them together and transfers the ink onto the paper.
