Drypoint

An intaglio printmaking technique that creates sharp lines with fuzzy edges. A needle with a diamond on the tip is used to scratch a metal plate, creating sharp lines with excess metal at the edges (called 'burr'). The lines are filled with ink. Damp paper is then laid on the plate and run through a press that squashes them together and transfers the ink onto the paper.
