Fashion illustration is an exciting practice that is part of advertising, runway shows, new collection launches and brand collaborations. On this short course, you will explore these aspects of fashion illustration and learn how to use different techniques and tools to create striking fashion images.
Guided by award-winning fashion illustrator Joanna Layla, you will learn how to successfully capture a ‘look’. Each week, you will focus on a different aspect of fashion illustration:
Week one - fashion figure.
Week two - fashion face.
Week three - fashion object.
Week four - fashion editorial.
You will do a series of guided drawing exercises and by the end of the course, you will have an inspiring small portfolio of fashion imagery.
Case studies from industry fashion briefs will give you an insight into how a professional fashion illustrator works. Guest speakers – from specialist fashion illustrators to art directors – will give you more insight and advice on working in fashion.
This course is suitable for beginners, and no prior experience is needed, however an interest in fashion and fashion drawing is recommended. Our small class size of no more than 16 students will ensure you receive personalised feedback from Joanna and group support in a relaxed and friendly environment.

What people say:
“I wish I could give a better than excellent score because this class really exceeded my expectations. Joanna's work is so strong, and she has worked with so many high end clients, I couldn't believe how approachable and nurturing she was. She is was totally comfortable dissecting how she works, showing us her secrets and making room for us to become more confident illustrators by using some of her techniques. There was no ego, only learning and exploration. I not only felt more confident mentally, my art improved drastically.”
“All round fantastic course, Jo was brilliant at creating well tailored feedback to each individual as well as keeping the class interesting and sharing information that I found mind blowing!”
“This is such a rich course. You learn so much in just four weeks”
“Joanna's teaching is very accessible and inspiring! Great reference resources supplied for each session. Reviewing student work was treated as an integral part of the session – an advantage that 'learn on demand' art classes cannot offer!"
