Decolonising New River Head Researcher (freelance)

Fee: £30,000
Contract: Freelance, part time
Fixed term 2 years, October 2024 – October 2026
Apply by 10:00am BST, Wednesday 4 September 2024
Interviews: Monday 30 September 2024

We are a small arts charity on an exciting journey to create the UK’s national centre for illustration. We are about to start restoration and construction work at New River Head, an industrial heritage site in Clerkenwell that was a vital part of the infrastructure of the New River Company. It will open to the public within the next 18 months to two years as the Quentin Blake Centre for Illustration. Interpretation and a participatory programme will explore the stories of the site.

We are now looking to appoint a Decolonising New River Head Researcher who will undertake independent research on the New River Company’s shareholders and their business interests, building on the findings of Dr Angelina Osborne’s 2023 report, New River Adventurers.

We champion art that is dynamic and diverse; we want our team to reflect that. In recognition of underrepresentation in our staff team, we will be offering guaranteed interviews to Deaf and disabled applicants and applicants of African, Caribbean, Central Asian, East Asian, South Asian, Latinx, South East Asian and West Asian heritage whose applications meet the essential criteria in the Job Pack.

Please see the Job Pack for more details on the role, what we are looking for and how to apply. If you have any queries, please email us
